Let’s be honest—most of us have that drawer. The one full of random cords, expired printer ink, mystery electronics, earbuds that may or may not work, and chargers we might need someday.
I'm not sure about you, but it had been a while since I gave my tech drawer a little love. So the other day, I gave myself 20 minutes and a mission: make this drawer better. No shopping for containers, no complicated systems. Just clear it out and organize with what I had. We're talking easy organizing. Here's what I did:
Step 1: Take out the trash (and the give-aways)
First, I pulled everything out and sorted quickly. Anything broken, outdated, or clearly useless went straight into the trash or recycling. A few things were in good condition, but I don't need/want them anymore. Those got put in my donation bag (a permanent fixture in my basement).
Step 2: Relocate what doesn’t belong
Next, I found a better home for the stuff that had landed in the drawer by accident—a cribbage board that belongs with the games and some task bracelets that belong with my work things.
Step 3: Organize by category
Once I knew what actually needed to live in this drawer, I grouped it by category:
Charging cords
Earbuds and headphones
Printer ink
Adapters and accessories
I grabbed a few small boxes I had on hand—a few from eyeglasses, another from a tablet—and used those to corral the categories. Instant drawer dividers, zero dollars spent.
The Result?
A drawer that makes sense. I can open it and actually find what I need. It’s not pretty, but it’s functional and DONE. All in under 20 minutes. For $0!

The Takeaway
You don’t need fancy containers or a free weekend to get organized. Sometimes all it takes is a little focused time, a few repurposed boxes, and a willingness to let go of the stuff that’s just taking up space. What’s one small space you could tackle today in 20 minutes or less?
