Ever find yourself staring at a cluttered space, knowing you need to tackle it… but somehow, you just can’t get started? You’re not alone! Sometimes, all we need is a little accountability—and that’s where body doubling comes in.


What Is Body Doubling?

Body doubling is a simple yet powerful productivity technique where you work alongside someone else to stay focused. You’re not collaborating or helping each other—you’re just working in the presence of another person, either in person or virtually. And yes, it actually works!


Many people, especially those with ADHD, find that body doubling makes it easier to focus, reduces overwhelm, and helps them follow through on tasks that otherwise feel impossible to start.


Why Does Body Doubling Work for Decluttering?

Decluttering can feel overwhelming, especially when you don’t know where to start. Body doubling helps in a few key ways:


Accountability: Knowing someone else is there keeps you committed to the task.

Reduced Overwhelm: Decluttering feels less daunting when you're not doing it alone.

Momentum: Once you start, it’s easier to keep going—especially when others are working too.

Fewer Distractions: You’re less likely to scroll your phone or wander off when someone else is present.


How to Use Body Doubling for Decluttering

Ready to try it? Here’s how you can make body doubling work for you:


1️⃣ Find a Body Double – A friend, family member, or an online group (like my subscriber sessions!).

2️⃣ Choose a Task – Pick one specific area to declutter, like your closet, junk drawer, or kitchen counters.

3️⃣ Set a Time Limit – Short bursts (30-60 minutes) work best.

4️⃣ Check In & Get to Work – Say what you’re working on, then dive in. If you're working with a friend, feel free to chat while you work.

5️⃣ Celebrate Your Progress – Even small wins add up!
